It is also reported that in addition to being a good cat for people with allergies, this breed may also be quit good for those with asthma as well. Characterized by a soft, silky close lying medium-long coat, which comes in a variety of rich chocolate colors as well as lavender, white and white bicolor. It is important to note that the coat of the York Chocolate is not prone to matting as are many other medium to long hair breeds. This is due to its lack of an undercoat. In addition to its lovely coat this cat is also is marked by a plummed tail, toe tufts, and modest neck ruff. While proportionately similar to a Siamese, this cat is noticeably larger, generally described as a medium to large breed weighing on average 14 - 16 pounds. Some other similarities with the Siamese include its round wedge shaped head (longer than it is wide), almond shaped eyes and large forward pointing. Unlike the Siamese this cat's eyes may be green gold or hazel. The York Chocolate Cat is an American breed, aptly named 'York" for its origins in New York State and the chocolate coming from the rich beautiful color of its coat. It has been reported that this cat was originally breed from Maine Coon cats. The York Chocolate breed is quite new, having been developed in 1983 from a litter of non-pedigree kittens on a farm in New York State. It is not widely recognized at this time. |
